Plant Varieties Rights
Plant breeders' rights, also known as plant variety rights (PVR), are legal rights granted to the plant breeder of a new variety of plant. As required by the Laws, foreign applicants and organizations have to appoint a local agent for services. Dr. Jacqueline Lui has a B.Sc. in Agricultural Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and is able to understand what a plant breeder needs.
Eagle IP Ltd. is able to take instructions in either English or Chinese and translate specifications from English into Chinese. For most new plant varieties, we need photos of the plant, table of characteristics and breeding methods.
Additional information, such as comparisons with popular varieties, may also be required. We work with Chinese PVR agencies to file PVR applications for foreign clients. Due to the fact that most of our practitioners are foreign educated , many foreign clients preferred to go through us because we are better able to understand the needs and requirements of foreign applicants, and provide the necessary strategies accordingly.
